History Of City Palace Jaipur India

blog-images
If we look at the history of City Palace Jaipur, it was established in the year 1729-1732 under the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in Jaipur. Before that, the King used to work in the town of Amer, and the massive Amber Fort was his place for administration and home to his royal family.

However, due to increased population and water scarcity, Maharaja Jai Singh decided to build a new complex and capital for his administrative work. The City Palace Jaipur came into existence, and he founded Jaipur.

The City Palace Jaipur India’s design was made by the famous Bengali architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and a Britisher named Samuel Swinton Jacob. Another interesting fact about Jaipur is that it is called “Pink City.” Maharaja Jai Singh decided to impress the Prince of Wales, King Edward VII, by colouring the city of Jaipur in pink. Today, the City Palace Jaipur is home to the last ruling royal family, who live on the Palace’s private property.

As you enter the complex, you will be transported into the historical era of Jaipur. The complex of City Palace Jaipur is made up of pink and red sandstone with a large courtyard.

The City Palace Jaipur India is a perfect blend of Mughal and Rajput styles of architecture that makes the Palace different from other palaces in India.

After a few decades of establishment, most of the areas have been converted into museums to showcase Jaipur’s rulers’ history and significance. You can also observe some of the unique features of the Palace, such as carved pillars, jali work, and interiors carved with marble.

Let’s talk about the magnificent and famous gates of the City Palace. You will find that the Palace has different gates in different locations. Tripolia Gate, Virendra Pol, Udai Pol, and Jalebi Chowk are some of them. The gates are decorated in such a way that takes your breath away. If we look at the overall structure of the Palace, it is built in a grid.

Here are some of the beautiful complexes that you can find in City Palace Jaipur:

1. Diwan-e-Aam

The name suggests that this complex was used to attend administrative meetings with the public, or it’s a hall made for a public audience. The Diwan-e-Aam has beautiful arches that support the columns, which are made of marble and have plaster ceilings. Looking at the southern end, you will find the jalis used by women of the royal family to attend the meetings in the hall.

2. Diwan-e-Khas

blog-images
The Diwan-e-Khas is, overall, a different and unique complex in the Palace. The name suggests that this complex was used to hold private meetings among the rulers and the administrators of the capital.

Looking at the architecture, it is a single-story building in the form of a square that has a vast open hall with an enclosed room in the corner. The Diwan-e-Khas has beautiful artefacts on display, such as silver vessels 5 feet tall, which can carry 4000 litres and weigh up to 340 kgs. According to the stories, these vessels comprised 14000 melted silver coins.

3. Chandra Mahal

The Chandra Mahal is one of the massive complexes in the Palace, which has seven floors situated at the centre and occupied by the royals. If you look at each floor, it is designed differently. The first two floors consist of Sukh Niwas, which we can say is a pleasure house; you will get to know about the Shobha Niwas, which is decorated with coloured glasses, the most beautiful blue-coloured Chhavi Niwas. The last two floors are dedicated to Shri Niwas and Mukt Mandir and the ground floor is the place where the museum is present.

4. Maharani Palace

We know that women hold a special place in the royal family. For their residential purpose, the Maharani Palace complex was built. Still today, this complex has been converted into a museum that displays weapons used by the rulers of the royal family of City Palace.

5. Pritam Niwas Chowk

The Pritam Niwas Chowk is the inner courtyard of the Palace. Here, you will find the most beautiful four small gates, also known as Ridhi Sidhi Pol, with four colours according to four distinct seasons and Hindu Gods. The Northeastern gate has a peacock motif dedicated to Lord Vishnu and represents the autumn theme.

The Eastern gate has a petal pattern of flowers representing the summer season and is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati; the Northwestern gate has a green colour representing spring and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha; and last, but not least, the Southwestern is a rose gate that has a repeated flower pattern representing the season of winter and dedicated to Goddess Devi.
