Sri Lanka Travel Guidelines

  1. Visa Requirements: You can apply for ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) online or on arrival. It is valid for 30 days and extendable up to 6 months. The visa fee for Indians is USD 20 approx. It is always recommended to carry a printed ETA approval for smoother entry.
  2. Currency: The official currency of Sri Lanka is Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR), and 1 INR ≈ 3.7 LKR (check latest rate). Though ATMs are widely used, cards are accepted in major cities. Do remember to carry cash for small vendors and rural areas.
  3. Language: The official language in Sri Lanka is Sinhala & Tamil, however English is also widely spoken in cities and tourist spots. You are also recommended to learn basic phrases in order to communicate well with the locals.
  4. Health & Safety: It is advisable to carry your travel insurance. Do not forget to carry mosquito repellant due to dengue risks. Sri Lanka is generally safe for tourists, however be cautious of petty thefts.
  5. Transportation: You can travel in Sri Lanka using domestic flights connecting major cities. You can also travel via trains if you prefer scenic rides. PickMe app can be used for booking cabs and buses and tuk tuks can be used for shorter distances.
  6. Cultural Étiquettes: Avoid public displays of affection in rural areas and greet everyone with a smile and be polite. Dress modestly at temples (cover shoulders & knees) and remove shoes & hats before entering temples.
  7. Connectivity: Buy prepaid sim at airport from providers like Dialog, Mobitel, Airtel. With these providers, you can also get affordable data packages with good coverage. Esim card options are also available via providers like Airalo and Holafly.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.

After an amazing trip to Tirthan with WanderOn, I decided to go to Manali-Jispa with them and yet again, the experience was worth every penny. The place was very beautiful and the quality of service was top-notch, the itinerary was very good and the quality of transportation and stays were very good. Had an awesome time there and made some good friends as well. Lastly, our trip captains Priyasha and Rachit managed the entire trip very well and were so fun and made our trip an experience worth remembering.
