Imagine hiking up a volcano as tall as 3,031 metres! Mount Agung is the highest and most sacred volcano in Bali, Indonesia. Standing at 9,944 feet(3,031 m) tall, it's an impressive sight that easily catches everyone's attention. And that’s why many Bali tour packages include Mount Agung as a top attraction in their itinerary.

Balinese people believe Mount Agung is holy — Where heaven meets earth. They think gods live on the mountain, which makes it very important in their culture and religion. There are temples on its slopes that both locals and tourists visit.

Mount Agung is beautiful but also an active volcano, showing how powerful nature can be. It last erupted in 2017, which affected tourism for a while. Still, the mountain remains a symbol of Bali's natural beauty and spiritual importance, making it a must-visit for a mesmerising experience.

How To Hike Mount Agung Bali Volcano?

There are two main routes leading to the top of Mount Agung, and taking a local guide is highly recommended for both!

1. Pasar Agung Temple Route

blog-images
  1. This is the most popular route which begins at a higher elevation of 1,500 metres with road access to reach the temple starting point.
  2. The journey to the crater rim takes approximately 3-6 hours.
  3. Hikers should pace themselves according to the guide's recommendations. Rushing will only result in arriving at the summit too early for sunrise when temperatures are extremely cold.
  4. At first, you walk through trees and thick greenery. Later, you walk on just rocks and loose stones.
  5. You can see old lava paths from previous eruptions, making the scenery interesting.
  • Starting Point: Pasar Agung Temple
  • Ending Point: Mount Agung crater rim (The actual summit of Mount Agung is at 3,142 metres, but the Pasar Agung route does not reach it.)
  • Duration: 3 to 6 hours
  • Hike Level: Advanced
  • Guided Tour: Starts from ₹6,021/-

2. Besakih Temple Route

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
